About Cathedral Catholic High School

Motto:

Order, Discipline, Growth

Starting in 1939, Cathedral Catholic School has its roots in St. Patrick's School. Located on Upper Ashmun Street in Central Monrovia, it has grown to be one of Liberia's largest Catholic schools. Dr. John Collins founded St. Patrick's School on the same site that Cathedral Catholic School now occupies.

For 16 years, the school acted as a preparatory institution for St. Patrick's High School which was primarily an all boys institution. In 1968, under the leadership of Sister Juanita and the Bernardino Sisters, it achieved independence. This marked a turning point: the school transformed into Cathedral School and opened its doors to female students for the first time becoming co-educational. Over time, it was gradually elevated from an elementary to a junior high school

Sr. Rose Gabriel, administrator of Cathedral from Jan. 1978, until her death in September of the same year, helped the school take its first step towards becoming a senior high school by adding a tenth grade in 1978. In 1979, Prof. Stephen Thomas took over as Principal. A number of noteworthy developments, both related to infrastructure and beyond, took place during his leadership. Construction of a New Building, which presently contains the elementary and junior high sections was done during his tenure and Cathedral became a full-fledged high school graduatng its first batch of students in 1980.

Presently, Cathedral Catholic School houses two sessions per day of students from kindergarten through the 12th grade. While it's part of the Catholic School System of the Archdiocese of Monrovia, all students are welcome, regardless of their religious background. The school's reputation for quality education attracts a diverse student body.
