About Holy Family Catholic School

Holy Family Catholic School History

In 1991, Holy Family Catholic School was established as an Emergency Relief School (EFS). The school was operated by the Consolata Sisters who were then working in the Holy Family Parish with the Bursar, Rev. Fr. James Lee as Pastor of the Parish. Mrs. Albertha Doe was the Administrator and was ably assisted by Mr. Alexander Berrian.

Six months following its establishment as an EFS, the school began operations as a regular school and was given the name, Holy Family Catholic School. It operated  from Kindergarten to Grade Seven (7). The Late Dr. Francis K. Sio was appointed Principal and Mr. Cromwell Brown as Vice Principal.

In 1992, the Holy Family Catholic School was elevated to a full Junior High level, (Kindergarten to Grade 9). Prior to the elevation, the thought of an edifice was advanced by some parishioners as well as the school’s administration, and an appeal for the construction was made to the Late Archbishop Michael K. Francis and the Catholic Education Secretariat (CES). This appeal was then granted.

Mr. Franklin Dalieh of the CES, Dr. Francis K. Sio, Principal of the school, and Mr. Alexander Berrian, a teacher, were able to purchase ten (10) acres of land from Messers Thomas Berrian and Othello Findley (Dealers) on behalf of the school.

In the same year of 1992, the school was ordered closed due to circumstances that erupted between the Catholic Church and the defunct Independent National Patriot Front of Liberia (INPFL).

On January 15, 1995, construction of the Holy Family Catholic School commenced. The construction work was completed on May 10, 1995, and operation of the school started on June 15th of the same year with the levels of kindergarten to Grade Three. The Administrators were Rev. Fr. Jonathan A. Aidoo, General Manager, Mr. Jerome M. Wilson Principal and Mrs. Beatrice Jrikan, Vice Principal.

Mrs. Monica Berrian, Mrs. Celestine Friday, Sis. Mary Piah and others rendered sacrificial services for the school just so its doors remained opened to the public. The school was elevated from Elementary to Junior High in 1998. Mr. G. Mathew Myers embarked on the project of building additional classrooms and improving the road leading to the school through the PTA. Under the leadership of Mr. Stephen Gaojia, Sr., Mr. Joseph Friday started as a social studies Teacher in the Elementary Division and later became the first Business Manager in 2000.

The school Ode was written by Mrs. Cynthia Davies and music by Jairus Jargba.
