Saint Joseph Catholic Elementary & High School was founded on March 19, 1952, in Greenville, Sinoe County, under the leadership of Mr. Francis Sayeh, who served as the school’s first Headmaster and Principal. Initially established as an elementary institution (Kindergarten to Grade 6), the school was a response to the growing demand for quality Catholic education in the region.
In 1953, Mr. Sayeh was succeeded by Mr. Michael Wollor, under whose dynamic leadership the school was elevated to the Junior High level. Mr. Wollor served with distinction as Principal for 32 years, shaping the academic and moral foundation of the institution. Upon his resignation in 1985, his vice principal, Mr. Albert Tuwleh, assumed leadership and served from 1986 to 1989.
During Mr. Tuwleh’s administration, the late Rev. Fr. Damian Kwashie, then Parish Priest of the local Catholic Church, provided additional support by acting as Principal for the Middle High School section until his death on July 27, 1990.
In the aftermath of Liberia’s Civil War, many families returned to Greenville, prompting a renewed call for education. Responding to the community’s need, the school reopened under the leadership of Mr. Francis Allie, who served as Principal from 1992 to 2008. His commitment to rebuilding the institution earned the school renewed trust and growth.
In 2008, Mr. Samuel Foyofayah took over as Principal, serving until 2018, when he was succeeded by Mr. Lewis Kwaiteh Seeboe, who provided steady leadership until the current acting principal, Fr. Amos Sikar, assumed responsibility.
Over the decades, Saint Joseph Catholic Elementary & High School has remained a pillar of academic excellence and moral formation within Sinoe County. As part of the Diocese of Cape Palmas, the school continues to uphold the Catholic educational mission by providing holistic, values-based education rooted in faith, knowledge, and discipline
