About St. Joseph's Catholic High School

MISSION

At St. Joseph Catholic High School, our mission is to provide a nurturing and inclusive educational environment grounded in Catholic values. We are committed to fostering academic excellence, moral integrity, and social responsibility among our students. Through a holistic approach to education, we strive to empower each student to achieve their full potential and become compassionate leaders in their communities.

VISION

Our vision at St. Joseph Catholic High School is to be a beacon of educational excellence and moral guidance in Voinjama and beyond. We aspire to cultivate a learning community where every student is inspired to embrace knowledge, uphold ethical principles, and contribute positively to society. By upholding the teachings of the Catholic Church and promoting a culture of respect and empathy, we aim to nurture future generations of leaders who embody integrity, compassion, and a commitment to lifelong learning.

HISTORY

St. Joseph Catholic High School in Voinjama operates under the auspices of the Catholic Diocese of Gbarnga, Bong County. With a rich history of educating students, its operations were significantly impacted by the onset of the civil war in 2003, mirroring the challenges faced by many educational institutions in Liberia during that period. Following the conflict, the elementary section underwent renovations and resumed operations, while the senior high section awaited refurbishment until 2011, when funding was generously provided by Mr. Forstmoser.

The school grapples with economic hardships exacerbated by a high cost of living in an area where approximately 80% of residents engage in subsistence farming. Since 2020, crucial support has been extended by the Missionary Sisters of the Holy Cross, who collaborate with the diocese in overseeing the school's operations.

St. Joseph’s School places a strong emphasis on moral and ethical education, striving to impart values that contribute to the holistic development of its students. In alignment with its mission, the school actively supports the evangelistic objectives of the Church.
