Teacher Training

Capacity Building Workshops

Workshops were held for every school in the Diocese during the school visits, focusing on key areas of teaching and learning. The two-day training program covered the following topics:

Day 1

Morning Session: Implementing Student-Centered Teaching Strategies

Introduced core principles such as active learning, differentiated instruction, and collaborative learning.

Practical methods included cooperative learning exercises, inquiry-based approaches, and the development of personalized learning plans tailored to students' needs.

Afternoon Session: Effective Classroom Management Techniques

Explored strategies to maintain a positive classroom atmosphere, including setting clear expectations, using positive reinforcement, and fostering healthy teacher-student relationships.

Teachers were trained on managing disruptions effectively using de-escalation techniques, conflict resolution strategies, and fostering inclusivity in the classroom.

Teachers were also given tips on how to manage over-crowded classrooms. Especially because in some of our schools, there are some over-crowded classes.

Day 2

Morning Session: Introduction to Action Research

Teachers were introduced to the concept and importance of action research in the educational process. A type of research that is peculiar to improving the performance of students in the classroom

Emphasis was placed on how action research promotes continuous improvement, personal growth, and the resolution of specific classroom challenges for improved learning and teaching.

Afternoon Session: Developing Research Questions & Data Collection Methods

The session focused on how to formulate strong and relevant research questions aligned with instructional goals.

Participants explored various methods of data collection and analysis including surveys, interviews, classroom observations, and both qualitative and quantitative techniques.

After every capacity building activities, meetings were held with school administrators and teachers as well as support staff.

We hope that the first semester of the 2024/2025 academic year marked a productive period of academic revival and professional growth within the Diocese of Cape Palmas. The commitment of teachers, school administrators, and the active support of the Education Secretariat has set a solid foundation for the remainder of the academic year.

The Secretariat remains committed to fostering academic excellence, enhancing teacher effectiveness, and nurturing holistic student development across all schools within the Diocese.
