The Office of the Education Secretariat of the Diocese of Gbarnga was reactivated immediately after the appointment and ordination of Most Rev. Dr. Anthony Fallah Borwah as the new Bishop of the Diocese of Gbarnga in June 11, 2011.
With the appointments of an Education Secretary (Mr. Robert G. Maller) and (Mr. Domenic Jusu Carr, Sr.) as Religious Education Coordinator in July and August 2011, the mission of this department of education which was to reactivate, unified and bring back the Old Catholic School System in the diocese started with an assessment.
Upon the completion of our assessment visits in September, 2011 in all of the Catholic Schools in the diocese, the following were observed:
That the Diocese has 19 schools:
At present we have 25 schools in operation:
ü We have broken the idea of separating the school from the church and now become one family.
ü We have unified the schools’ regulations by having one Diocesan Education Policy and a Student Hand book.
ü We have improved most of our schools, by providing conducive learning atmosphere through renovations, providing instructional materials and have standardized the payment system of our teachers.
ü We are providing professional upgrading of our teachers every year.
ü We are now doing vigorous classroom inspections of instruction methods.
ü We are also working in line with the mandate of the Catholic Bishops conference of Liberia through a Unified group called (NACES)
Despite all of these efforts, we still need to do more for the betterment of our education system.
